Mike has a unique combination of skill to offer in that he is an experienced statistician (particularly in the area of social research), a social researcher, a lecturer and a programmer.
As such he is able to provide statistical support to a research project from the position of understanding the practical and theoretical goals of the project. Mike is also able to contribute to the theoretical debates regarding the content of the research. In addition, he has a great deal of experience in explaining and elucidating the technical concerns to non-technical
co-researchers. Mike has a broad knowledge of the specific concerns of social research (e.g. measurement concerns.) Finally, Mike’s programming and more general IT experiences enables him to implement the analysis, access and manipulate the data where relevant or build delivery systems for clients to view the results of an analysis.
For the past two years Mike has managed the Analytics and cyber teams for BDO whose business objective is to develop a cyber practice and big data solutions in the forensics areas. His role includes managing a team of analysts and software developers by integrating their skills to provide strategic solutions in the Auto Insurance, Health Insurance and Procurement areas. Mike has led several projects involving the PTP process and has managed his team in advanced analysis in the PTP cycle for a major commercial bank, a large resource and mining corporation and multiple public listed and large South African corporates.
